I recently attended the HOW design conference in Boston, Mass.
I did a lot of shopping and site seeing while I was there - which was a lot of fun. But I also got the opportunity to see and hear some very inspiring and talented people speak at the conference. Among them was a lecture given by John Bielenberg, who created Project M
John talked about using our skills as designers for the greater good of humanity. He had hit a block in his own career where he began to feel strongly that he had to do something positive. He began to gather a small group of young, (obviously) extremely talented designers (peak of creativity is 26 btw) and they moved to Maine for a month to brainstorm a project. The way they approached their idea generation was so thoughtful. Project M itself and the way they generate ideas could be considered by most people as "wrong" but to me it seemed normal. I think as "playful spirits" we naturally "think wrong" and people may look at us as if we're rebellious or that we have some innate urge to walk against the wind rather than with it. The idea of being playful or thinking wrong can be used in all aspects of life and as a result create rich and meaningful opportunities &/or life memories.
so my fellow playful spirits - continue to THINK MRONG.
